Weekend sports tourneys shut down due to weather concerns; farmers’ market, Food Truck Rally still on

The Plant City Recreation and Parks Department announced Thursday morning that this weekend’s sports tournaments in city parks have been canceled.

“Due to the saturated fields and continuing rain predicted for today and tomorrow, all scheduled tournament activity in the parks this weekend has been canceled in a joint decision by the city and the event organizers – including the Dolphins football Jamboree and the GSA Summer Sizzler tournament,” director Jack Holland said in an email. “Depending on the rain we receive today and Friday, Mike Sansone Park and Ellis-Methvin Park may remain closed to vehicular traffic through the weekend.  This decision will be made later today.”

As of Thursday morning, several of the parks to have been used in the tournaments have already experienced some flooding.

Holland also said the Fun Friday Farmers’ Market and Food Truck Rally, both of which are scheduled for tomorrow, will go on as planned unless those events’ organizers decide on their own to follow suit.
