Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the band director of Strawberry Crest for DUI after she refused to provide breath samples Sunday, May 3, and almost drove into a patrol car.
At about 9:30 p.m., deputies made a traffic stop on Cheri Sleeper, 51, of Tampa, for failing to yield the right of way. She pulled out from an Apollo Beach private drive and crossed four lanes of traffic, where she almost struck the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office marked patrol vehicle.
Sleeper emitted the odor of an alcoholic, had red/glossy eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance, according to HCSO.
She previously refused to provide breath, urine or blood during a separate incident December 8, 2008.
A previous version of this story incorrectly listed Sleeper as the Strawberry Crest High School chorus director, in addition to being the band director. We regret the error.
