PCPD asks for help with deadly hit-and-run

Plant City Police Department is asking for help tracking down the driver of a fatal hit-and-run. The driver struck three pedestrians, killing one and injuring the other two.

Police responded at approximately 10:55 p.m. last night to the accident near Fuego Bar & Grille, 4103 W. Hwy 574. Investigators with PCPD said the three men were walking eastbound on SR 574 after leaving Fuego.

While they were walking, PCPD said a vehicle traveling eastbound on SR 574 struck the group. The driver failed to stop, offer aid or assistance and continued driving away from the scene. It is unknown at this time whether the men were walking on the roadway shoulder or on the sidewalk.

PCPD and Plant City Fire Rescue arrived quickly at the scene and began aiding the men. Miquel A. Hernandez, 21, died at the scene from his injuries and the other two men, ages 21 and 20, were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Thanks to tips from the community and the completion of an extensive search, PCPD has recovered the suspect vehicle. It was a pearl white metallic colored 2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV.

PCPD has secured the vehicle and it is being processed for any items that could act as evidence.

Anyone who has information about the vehicle or about the person driving the vehicle is asked to contact PCPD at 813-757-9200.
