Plant City EDC confirms Chick-fil-A negotiations

When Buddy Freddy’s closed earlier in 2020, many fans of the popular Plant City restaurant were saddened. But the future of the site could be bright if current negotiations for the property stay on track.

The Plant City EDC announced in a Dec. 10 Facebook post that a Florida-based real estate firm entered negotiations to purchase the Thonotosassa Road property and re-develop it into something many Plant Citians have wanted for a long time: a Chick-fil-A restaurant.

“The Plant City EDC has followed the progression of Chick-fil-A’s interest in our community and we are thrilled that we are still being considered,” the post read.

Arrest made in Nov. 25 Plant City homicide

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday the arrest of Luis Jose Coronado in connection with a Nov. 25 shooting that left one man dead.

HCSO said Coronado, 30, shot a known male subject following an altercation that evening at a home on the 5000 block of Sydney Road. The victim was transported to South Florida Baptist Hospital with a gunshot wound, but life-saving measures were unsuccessful.

Coronado was found and arrested in Polk County and was charged with manslaughter with a firearm.

HCSO feeds Dover families

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Hispanic Advisory Council spent this past Saturday giving out free holiday meals to Dover families in need.

The group hosted a drive-thru food pickup at the Dover Boys and Girls Club that morning and was able to distribute more than 200 meals to the community. The Boys and Girls Club, the Dover RCMA Child Development Center and Dover Elementary School staff identified families in need and selected them to receive the free meals. The HCSO Hispanic Advisory Council purchased the meals and volunteers prepackaged them so they could be safely picked up with limited contact. Meals included turkey or ham, vegetables, fruit and bread.

“We know that this has been a tough year with many families losing their source of income due to the ongoing pandemic,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “We are hoping by providing more than 200 families with meals, we will be able to brighten their holidays during these difficult times.”
