Man Shot After Incident With Plant City Police

One armed man is dead after Plant City police officers shot him in the parking lot of the U.S. Post Office, located at 2501 Walden Woods Drive, according to the Plant City Police Department.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon at approximately 5:15 p.m. when officers responded to a 911 call regarding a suicidal person. When officers arrived at the address given, they found a man armed with a firearm, police said.

Officers tried to de-escalate the situation but the man pointed his firearm at officers in a threatening manner, prompting officers to use deadly force, according to a news release by Plant City Police Department. The man died at the scene.

Per PCPD policy, the officers involved in this shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation. FDLE Public Information Officer Gretl Plessinger said the department’s thorough investigation will include interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence related to the incident. “We’ll be doing that over the next several days and in the weeks to come,” she said.
