Hope Lutheran serves up hurricane relief

For 18 years, Hope Lutheran Church has served a turkey supper to help raise money for charity. This year, amateur chefs and volunteers peeled 300 pounds of potatoes and roasted about 30 turkeys for the supper which served 800 people in Plant City. But proceeds will also serve beyond the boarders of this town. Hope Lutheran has sent $5,500 to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod’s disaster response fund designated for Hurricane Sandy relief.

Hurricane Sandy caused billions of dollars in damage and left millions without power in the Northeast.

“In past years Hope has always given 10% of all proceeds towards missions outside of the congregation,” Sr. Pastor, Rev. Dean Pfeffer, said. “This time we needed to move beyond and respond to those suffering physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually as a result of this disaster.”

The supper took place Nov. 4 and the cost was $9 for adults and $5 for children.
