Foundation to sparkle at 16th gala

By Michael Eng | Managing Editor

The South Florida Baptist Hospital Foundation expects more than 500 people at its 16th annual Diamonds & Denim Gala.

The gala will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 27, at the Florida Strawberry Festival Expo Hall, 2301 W. Oak Ave.

Since 1997, the gala, the foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year, has raised more than $800,000 for the foundation, said event chair Kim McElveen. This year, organizers hope to raise $90,000.

“We did $88,000 last year, and I think we’ll do more this year,” she said.

The foundation supports a number of programs at South Florida Baptist Hospital, including Wellness on Wheels, the Community Health program and educational outreach programs such as the popular Ladies Night Out. It also supports health programs within the Plant City community.

“We have nurses who volunteer their time in their church communities, and this money helps support that, as well,” McElveen said.

Attendees will enjoy a dinner featuring six different food and beverage stations, 50-50 raffle and more. Guests also will have a chance to win a diamond ring courtesy of J&G Jewelers. The silent auction will include a myriad of items, including trips, sports memorabilia, tickets to Orlando Magic and Florida Gators games and more. Live music will be provided by Faces South Band.
