Plant City teen takes opportunity to prepare for Miss Florida.
On May 13, the Woman’s Club of Plant City held a season finale club meeting at their location at 1110 N. Wheeler Street. The special guest for this meeting was Taylor Gregory, winner of Miss Hillsborough County 2025 in the Southwest Central Florida Scholarship Competition. Gregory, who lives in Plant City, will go on to represent Hillsborough County in the Miss Florida Competition on June 28—an event that is a preliminary to the Miss America competition.
Gregory, a violinist, played a solo piece, “City of Stars,” from the movie La La Land. She also spoke to the group about her experience being crowned the first Miss Teen Hillsborough and how excited she is to be competing in Miss Teen Florida.
This gathering also served as a venue for those who might be interested in connecting with the Women’s Club to meet members, and find out about the club’s community and charitable initiatives as a path to joining with them. The event also provided the chance for attendees to meet and interact with Gregory, celebrate her accomplishments, and encourage her as she advances towards the prestigious Miss Florida competition.
“My experience at the women’s club was a true reflection of Plant City hospitality—the ladies were so welcoming and kind,” Gregory said. “I received many hugs, congratulations, and good wishes for my future, along with an amazing lunch. I enjoyed learning about the club and was encouraged by their outreach. The care they have for their community was evident in the way they spoke about upcoming events, and the people they serve. The club itself is a Plant City gem, full of women who genuinely care about those around them.”
Local women founded the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) in Plant City in 1922. The original members are described as benevolent, philanthropic, civic, scientific, literary, and social. The group’s first act in Plant City was to donate 2,000 books to the city and renovate and repair a building to serve as a public library. The GFWC then oversaw library services for Plant City for 27 years.
The GFWC is one of the world’s oldest and largest women’s service organizations. It is an “international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.” GFWC members network and form lasting friendships with women across the country and around the world. The organization trains its members to grow personally, and to lead.
The Women’s Club of Plant City is always open to new members who have volunteer spirits, are looking for connections to the community, are interested in meeting new friends, and are ready to have some fun.
