Tyler Danish named Mr. Florida Baseball

Durant High pitcher Tyler Danish continued his memorable June Monday with the announcement that he was named this season’s Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Florida Baseball.

The award is given to the top high school baseball player in the state. In April, Danish was named the player of the year by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association.

Danish was previously named the Class 8A Player of the Year, which made him eligible for Mr. Baseball. San Francisco Giants first-round draft pick Christian Arroyo, who was the 5A Player of the Year, finished second in the voting.

Danish finished the year with a 0.00 ERA in 94 innings pitched, becoming the only prep pitcher in Hillsborough County to accomplish such a feat. He struck out 156 batters while only walking 16 and also batted .411 with 27 RBI and nine home runs as he helped lead Durant to their first region title and the 8A state title game.

The award comes four days after Danish was selected in the second round of the MLB Draft (55th overall) by the Chicago White Sox.
