Two die in crash

UPDATE:

The names of the two Lakeland residents who died in a car crash Saturday, Sept. 5, have been released. Edward Garrett Gottschall, 29, was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla on State Road 39. His passenger was Nalee Yang, 37. They were hit head on.

Two Lakeland residents died in a car accident Saturday, Sept. 5, on State Road 39.

The names of the 29-year-old driver and 37-year-old passenger have not been released.

At about 12:33 a.m. a 2008 Hyundai Sonata driven by David Thomas Flanagan, 47, of Zephyrhills, was traveling north on State Road 39, north of Candis Road, when he didn’t slow for the traffic in front of him. He hit a 2004 Isuzu Ascender driven by Amy Kay Dudeck, 32, of Plant City.

The Ascender veered into the southbound lane of State Road 39 and collided head on with a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The Corolla left the roadway and struck a power pole. Its driver and passenger died at the scene.

The Ascender overturned. Dudeck and her passengers, Stanley John Dudeck, 27, and Sophia Dudeck, 1, both of Plant City, were transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Flanagan was transported to Florida Hospital Zephyrhills where he was arrested for DUI manslaughter and driving while his license was suspended involving a death.
