Two dead in head-on collision

Alcohol is suspected in a head-on collision that killed two and injured four on State Road 39 Saturday, Dec. 13.

At around 7 p.m. Todd Johnny Smith, 23, of Lithia, was traveling south on State Road 39 near Alderman Ford Park Drive when his 2012 Ford Van went over the center line, striking a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Lloyd Daniel Worth, 44, of Ruskin, nearly head on.

A 2011 Honda Civic driven by Irma Busi, 64, of Plant City, was behind the Impala and also collided with the Impala.

Both Smith and Worth died at the scene. Worth’s passenger, Carl Worth, 14, was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. All three passengers in the Honda, including Busi, Sandiago Morales, 51, and Maria Lozada, 65, both of Bradenton, were transported to Brandon Hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation continues.
