TCMS art students donate to photo archives

Art students at Turkey Creek Middle School donated the proceeds from a charity art sale to the Plant City Photo Archives and History Center this week.

Art teacher Sue Swanson’s students chose to donate to the archives because they considered it important to preserve the community’s rich history.

“The fact that the students chose the photo archives themselves makes the donation all the more meaningful,” Gil Gott, executive director, said. “Their appreciation for history is appropriate for a school that was established in 1873. Turkey Creek School is one of the early strawberry schools, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places.”

The archives was founded in 2000 with the objective of preserving the history and heritage of the community by collecting and preserving the community’s photographs and their stories. The history organization encourages students to explore nearby history.

The organization’s gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. The office telephone number is (813) 754-1578 and the email address is info@plantcityphotoarchives.org.
