When did you find out you are your class salutatorian? How did you react?
I found out I was a top student during a breakfast invitation at the end of February. The counselor announced it to the group, and I was shocked, but also incredibly proud of the hard work that got me there. I was very grateful for the recognition.
What is something you wish you knew about high school before entering as a freshman?
I wish I realized how fast these four years pass. It’s wild seeing everyone head in different directions now, and I would’ve soaked up the fun moments even more if I knew how quickly it would go by.
What is your favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory is definitely senior year with my friends. It was one of those times when we could all just enjoy each other’s company and not have to worry that much about real life. We created unforgettable memories that I’ll carry with me forever.
What is the most important lesson you learned from a teacher or another student while in high school?
The most important lesson I learned in high school was the value of having community. While I’ve gained knowledge from both teachers and students, what stands out most is how everyone is always ready to support one another, whether it’s with schoolwork or personal challenges. This sense of connection and support is something I’ll always value as I move forward.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in? What was your favorite and why?
I’ve been involved in a variety of extracurricular activities, from FBLA and robotics to HOSA. While I’ve enjoyed all of them, my favorite has to be FBLA. The people I met and the networking opportunities were amazing, and being a state officer gave me the chance to visit the Capitol and experience some really cool things. It was a great way to grow both personally and professionally.
What are your plans after high school and your career goals?
I’m passionate about studying Public Health and the Biological Sciences to tackle healthcare disparities. My goal is to pursue a career in medicine, and I’m excited to have been accepted into the University of Alabama-Birmingham’s 8-year guaranteed BS/MD program. This opportunity will allow me to combine my interests in science and healthcare while working towards making a meaningful impact in the field.
What advice would you give students to help them improve their grades?
Work hard, but also have fun—you’re only in high school once! Ask for help when you need it, and stay on top of your assignments, but also make time to enjoy school. These four years go by fast, so make the most of them. Best of luck to you all!
