Plant City commissioners appointed David Sollenberger as interim city manager March 20, in an special meeting.
The appointment comes one day after the Hillsborough County Commission approved the hiring of current Plant City Manager Greg Horwedel as its deputy county administrator.
Sollenberger is no stranger to the city’s top seat. After retiring as city manager for Sarasota, he came to Plant City to take the role first on an interim basis in September 2002. He took the helm on a permanent basis in December 2002 and held it until February 2010, when Horwedel succeeded him. Horwedel worked under Sollenberger in Sarasota and then again in Plant City.
Sollenberger, a Plant City residents, holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Dayton and a master’s degree in government administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Before his appointment yesterday, Sollenberger was a candidate for a seat on the Walden Lake Community Association, which will hold its election at its annual meeting April 10.
