Seffner Christian XC invite

Durant, Plant City and Strawberry Crest sent their cross country teams to the Sept. 8 Seffner Christian Invitational at Holloway Park in Lakeland.

The area’s top finisher in the boy's race was Plant City junior Danny Ramirez, who placed 44th with a time of 18:49.45. Ramirez led the Raiders to a seventh-place team finish. Haydon Patrick’s time of 19:16.12 led the Durant Cougars to a 14th-place finish and Ethan Ball’s 20:09.61 run led Strawberry Crest in its 20th-place finish.

Crest senior Taylor Johnson led all area girls with a 16th-place time of 21:41.18, which helped the Chargers record a 17th-place team finish. Plant City’s team finished 26th overall, led by Hannah Manley’s time of 24:53.88. Durant sent three runners to the event and Kirsten Grindel led the Cougars with a 24:08.67.

 

Swimming City Relays

Sept. 8 was also the day of the 2018 City Relays swimming event in Tampa at the Bobby Hicks Pool and all three Plant City-area schools participated.

Strawberry Crest was the only area school to record top-10 team finishes in both boys (seventh place, 124 points) and girls (fifth place, 156 points) competition. The Chargers performed well in the mixed relays, placing fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.13) and 200 freestyle (1:39.70) events. 

Durant’s and Plant City’s boys and girls teamed up for their schools’ best finishes of the meet, with the Cougars coming in sixth place (2:20.89) and the Raiders in 15th place (3:11.30) in the mixed 200 breaststroke relay.
