CROSS COUNTRY

+ PCHS runners compete at UF

Plant City High took part in the Saturday, Sept. 19, University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational, which included schools from classes 1A through 4A, as well as collegiate runners.

On the boys side, the Raiders placed 25th overall with eight runners. Luke Whitmore had the highest finish of the Raiders, 82nd place, and Noah Booz finished in 91st place. Other runners included Cody Facer (165), Jorge Cardona (194), Wyatt Kroeger (226), Tanner Chamberlain (237), Michael Sun (376) and Garrett Johnson (400).

On the girls side, Plant City sent two runners. Hannah Stowe finished 86th overall, and Abby Miller finished at 291.

DURANT

The Lady Cougars have been on the ups and downs lately, getting swept by Newsome Thursday, Sept. 17, and following up with a 3-0 sweep of Sickles Monday, Sept. 21.

Durant will host Strawberry Crest at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 4748 Cougar Path.

PLANT CITY

Plant City picked up a 3-0 win over Lennard Wednesday, Sept. 16, and did not play again until Thursday, Sept. 24, at Tampa Bay Tech. The Lady Raiders easily handled the Lady Longhorns, 25-11, 25-10, 25-8.

Plant City will host East Bay at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 1 Raider Place.

STRAWBERRY CREST

Strawberry Crest was on a winning streak after the Karl Flammer Ford Invitational tournament. It beat Bloomingdale Wednesday, Sept. 16, by 3-0 and edged out King by 3-2 Monday, Sept. 21. Current Athlete of the Week Terra Brooks finished with 35 kills and 16 blocks between the two matches.

At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, Crest will travel to Durant, 4748 Cougar Path.

GOLF

+ PCHS beats Tampa Catholic

The Plant City golf teams continue to play well, most recently beating Tampa Catholic on Thursday, Sept. 17.

The girls managed to keep their perfect record behind strong performances from Kendall Johnson and Kayleigh McIntosh, as each shot a 38. Savannah Kummelman (42), Emily Walker (45) and Abigale Devane (55) rounded out the scoring.

The boys improved their record to 7-4 with their win. Kaelib Carlough led with a 38, and Andrew Lee (42), Jerad Driskell (47) and Jake Koisa (50) rounded out the scoring.

+ Durant faces Wharton, tops Riverview

That same day, Durant’s boys faced Wharton and lost, 157-174.

Leading the Cougars was Jacob Penny (36), Cameron Nero (42), Austin McDonald (46) and Justin Richter (50) rounded out the scoring. There were only two Wharton girls, but Megan Mooney (43), Cheyenne Hodock (45), Dione Little (55) and Autumn Smith (60) played anyway.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Durant’s teams swept Riverview. The boys won, 160-186, with Penny (35), McDonald (40), Nero (41) and Richter (44). The girls won, 217-240, behind Hodock (44), Little (53), Smith (60) and Savannah Long (60).

FOOTBALL

+ TCYFCC season hits midpoint

The Tri-County Youth Football and Cheerleading Conference season has reached the halfway point, and Plant City-area teams are performing fairly well.

The Plant City Dolphins are on top of the wold right now, as all five teams are undefeated at 5-0. The Turkey Creek Trojans have three teams (Midgets, Junior Varsity, Varsity) with 3-2 records, while the Mighty Mites sit at 2-3 and the Pee Wees have yet to win a game. The Antioch Redskins have two wins between its five teams, with the Mighty Mites and Varsity squads each owning a win. And the Dover Patriots are on both ends of the spectrum, with the Mighty Mites (0-5) and Pee Wees (1-4) owning losing records and the Midgets (4-1), Junior Varsity (4-1) and Varsity (3-2) teams playing well.
