+ Marshall High football team to attend reunion
On Saturday, August 8, one of the best football teams in Plant City’s history will bring the band back together.
The Marshall High School Class of 1965’s 50-year reunion will be held at Veterans’ Memorial Monument Park and the football team, coaches, cheerleaders and band members plan to attend. The 1964-65 Marshall football team went 9-0, outscoring opponents 367-13 and posting seven shutout victories.

+ Buddy Bowl funds to go to Bennett Fund
The Plant City Dolphins have announced that funds from the Buddy Bowl will go to the Buddy Bennett Fund.
The Buddy Bennett Fund will help expand and improve the chemotherapy center at South Florida Baptist Hospital, which is set to be renamed for Bennett. Last week’s Plant City Times & Observer reported that funds raised at the Buddy Bowl would benefit the Dolphins organization.
+ PCHS camp canceled
Plant City High School’s football camp was cancelled because of excessive rain. Head coach Greg Meyer said that the goal is to hold the camp at a later date. For updates, follow the @PCTOSports Twitter account or the school’s @Raider_Football account.
WRESTLING
+ Rainford signs with Trojans
Strawberry Crest two-sport athlete Farron Rainford signed his letter of intent Monday, July 27, to wrestle for Hannibal-LaGrange University.
Rainford, who played both football and wrestling throughout his high school career, signed with coaches C.J. Gittens and Will Terry, along with family and friends, in tow. He will attend in the fall.
Hannibal-LaGrange, located in Hannibal, Missouri, is a four-year Christian university. Its enrollment total in 2010 was 1,191, though current data is not available.
KICKBALL
+ Rec center showdown rescheduled
The annual kickball showdown between the Planteen and MLK rec centers was rescheduled for the morning of Thursday, July 30, per the Plant City Recreation & Parks Department.
Results for the game were not available at press time, but will be published in next week’s issue of the Plant City Times & Observer.
