"He was a great friend, a great husband and father," Kenneth Buchman, the City of Plant City attorney, said. "He will be missed."

Buchman and Platt met in Boy Scouts when they were in elementary school. They stayed friends throughout the years and attended the University of Florida together.

Every year Platt threw a Christmas party, which half the city seemed to attend, Buchman said.

Platt was a 1976 graduate of Santa Fe Catholic High School in Lakeland, and a 1980 graduate of the University of Florida. He was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity, Gators Booster Club, Lone Palm Country Club, the Plant City Elk’s Club, chamber of commerce, and Board of Adjustment.

At one point, he was business partners with State Rep. Dan Raulerson. The accounting firm he owns has been around since 1922. His current partner is Bob Meyer.

"They are a great family," Buchman said. "Really good Plant City people."

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lesli Edwards Platt; children, Mackensi Platt Beers (Matthew), of Plant City, and Randell “R2” LeRoy Platt II, of Plant City; grandson, Eason Randell Beers; siblings, Riley Platt, of Plant City, and Rachel Platt, of South Carolina; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy Platt and Carol McQuaig Platt. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, January 26 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Plant City, 303 N. Evers Street, Plant City, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. The family requests that you come in your best Gator gear. Expressions of condolence at HopewellFuneral.com.
