Police departments searching Plant City for carjacking suspect

Police are searching Plant City for a man suspected of multiple carjackings throughout Central Florida.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is joining forces with Florida Highway Patrol, Plant City Police Department and Polk County Sheriff’s Office to find the “armed and dangerous” subject, who was last seen traveling southbound on Thonotosassa Road in a green Ford F-150 pickup truck. The man is wanted for multiple carjackings around Central Florida ranging from Orange County to Hillsborough County.

Police say the suspect, described as a black male standing at 5-foot-6, weighing around 240 pounds, having short cropped hair and wearing a green shirt with blue jeans, traveled from Orange County to Polk County this morning and led deputies on a chase into Hillsborough County while driving a Cadillac. The suspect abandoned the Cadillac and stole the F-150, which had an attached trailer and Florida tag 937 9TJ, in Plant City. The truck’s owner tracked the suspect to the Marathon gas station at Marshall Drive and Thonotosassa Road and confronted him, but the suspect brandished a firearm and shot twice. The truck owner was not injured, though a nearby vehicle was damaged by the gunfire.

Anyone who sees the suspect or has more information is asked to call 911.
