Plant City Y promoting summer sports programs

The Plant City Family YMCA’s summer 2018 offerings are diverse.

This summer’s slate includes developmental co-ed, girls and competitive basketball and volleyball leagues for kids age 5 through 17, and there will also be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for adults age 17 and older. The Y wants to know “Who Runs P.C.?” with the tournament, which will be played June 2 and 3 featuring teams of up to five players. The Y is accepting registrations for the youth leagues and adult hoops tourney by 11:59 p.m. this Sunday, May 27. Adult soccer players can compete in a 6-on-6 tournament June 9 and 10, and must register by June 2.

The Y is hosting a basketball clinic and an outdoor soccer clinic from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 9 through 13 to help kids improve their games. Registration will be open through July 6.

There will also be a preschool sports sampler program for kids age 2 through 4 parents can sign up for by June 15. The Y plans to introduce these kids to basketball, soccer and football twice per week from the week of June 18 through the week of July 2. Parent involvement is encouraged.

Midnight basketball for kids age 12 through 17 is also making a comeback in the summer, with dates set for June 22 and July 20. If successful, the Y hopes to host more midnight basketball events in the summer months. Hope Lutheran Church Associate Pastor Shea Pennington will be a guest speaker at the June 22 event. Registration may be done up until the day of each event.
