Plant City woman elected as chair for Commission on Status of Women

Yvonne Fry has been elected to serve as the chair for the Florida Commission on the Status of Women for the 2015-2016 year.

Other officers elected are Patti Hamilton, vice-chair; Elizabeth Pines, treasurer; Cindy Ross, secretary; Gayle Jacobson, member at large; and Chloé Gentry, member at large.

The FCSW is a nonpartisan board consisting of 22 members appointed by the Governor, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House, and members of the Florida Cabinet, statutorily created in 1991 and  dedicated to recognizing and supporting women of all ages as they strive to achieve their fullest potential.

The election took place during the Commission’s first quarter meeting in Tallahassee, and the officers take office April 1.

“It is an honor to serve with such an outstanding group of women who are working to improve the lives of women and families in Florida,” Commission Chair Yvonne Fry said. “I’m looking forward to another productive and successful year.”

Fry was appointed to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women in 2012 by Attorney General Pam Bondi with the goal of continuing to increase the awareness of women’s issues as well as to develop even stronger collaboration statewide to find solutions and partnerships on women’s issues.

She chairs the Florida and Hillsborough Commission on the Status of Women, is past chair of Spring of Tampa Bay’s board of directors, active on the boards of Frameworks of Tampa Bay, Plant City Board of Adjustment, Jr. League of Tampa Community Advisory Board, USF’s Women in Leadership and Philanthropy’s Awards Committee, Chair of the Athena Society Hospitality Committee, President of Plant City High School PTSA and active on two other PTA boards. She is also chair of the Plant City Chamber Government Relations Committee and Buy Local initiative.
