Plant City teen dead in Interstate 75 accident

UPDATE:

The driver of the semi truck in the Friday, Sept. 25, accident has been identified.

Mohamed Ahmed, 34, of Nashville was unaware of that a Ford Focus, driven by Waleika D. Swingler, 17, of Plant City,  had crashed into the back of his semi truck. He continued north on Interstate 75 and stopped at exit 285, which is State Road 52.

It was then that he contacted law enforcement.

On Friday, Sept. 25, Waleika D. Swingler, 17, of Plant City, was driving north on Interstate 75 when she collided with a semi truck.

Swingler’s vehicle, a 2006 Ford Focus, became wedged underneath the tractor trailer and was dragged for 75 feet before coming to a final resting point.

Swingler died at the scene. According to Florida Highway Patrol, Swingler was wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The semi trailer continued north on I-75, most likely unaware of the collision. FHP described the semi trailer as being silver or white in color.
