Plant City police arrest six for drug possession, child neglect

The Plant City Police Department executed a search warrant overnight Oct. 30, at 405 S. Lake St., that resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana and cash and that led to the arrest of six individuals on charges ranging from possession of marijuana to child neglect.The department’s Investigative Services Division and Emergency Response Team executed the search warrant after an investigation, stemming from numerous citizens complaints of narcotics activity in the vicinity of Marie B. Ellis Park, proved the home was being used as a hub from the sale and distribution of narcotics.

Detectives seized about 1,286.5 grams of marijuana (just under three pounds), drug paraphernalia, and cash. Fourteen individuals, who were on the property when the search warrant was executed, were detained. Eight of those were released, while six went to jail. Detectives also found a toddler asleep in a bedroom where marijuana was being stored.

This investigation remains open and charges are still pending for other individuals.Those arrested include:

Paul Lavone Wright (DOB Aug. 16, 1985): Possession of marijuana with the intent to sell within 1000 feet of a church, child neglect, and possession of paraphernalia.

Walter Jerald Wright (DOB Feb. 18, 1986): Three Polk County warrants for possession of marijuana and driving while license was suspended or revoked.

Edgar Rodriguez (DOB March 2, 1992): Possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.

Tony McDonald (DOB Dec. 8, 1991): Possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and Hillsborough County warrant for violation of probation (related to narcotic sales).

Willie Mays (DOB Sept. 9, 1991): Giving a false name to a law enforcement officer and a warrant for violation of probation on two counts of aggravated battery and one count of criminal mischief.

Juvenile (name withheld): Possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.
