Plant City native wins Guy Harvey contest

A motorcycle patrol officer for Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office won a fishing outing with a professional tournament fisherman as part of an online Guy Harvey contest.

Originally from Plant City, Larry Davis Jr. now lives in Lakeland. He won a Guy Harvey Outpost Lake Okeechobee fishing adventure and a cache of personalized Guy Harvey merchandise and fishing gear. On Nov. 21, he will  join Captain Scott Kerslake for the trip on Lake Okeechobee.

“You know, I have been fishing as long as I can remember,” Davis said. “Mostly small lakes and some offshore grouper fishing, but I have never fished Lake Okeechobee. I ąm really looking forward to this.”

Lake Okeechobee, considered the Mother of the Everglades, is known internationally for its largemouth bass fishing. The Big O is the second largest lake in the United States.

The drawing, hosted by Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts, also included freshwater lure kits from DOA lures, a custom rod from SaltH2o Customs, Guy Harvey fishing shirts, two personalized Guy Harvey law enforcement mugs and bass fishing decals from Guy Harvey Outpost.

Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts is affiliated with artist and wildlife conservationist Guy Harvey. Along with Elite Resorts, Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts is working to rebrand Okee-Tantie Campground and Marina into a Guy Harvey Outpost RV Resort and marina.

Comprising over 100 acres overlooking Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River, redevelopment plans for Phase I include a new Guy Harvey Outfitter Store with a riverfront tiki bar, 40-slip boat barn and a 10,000-square-foot waterfront clubhouse featuring the Guy Harvey River Grill and Bar to serve the community, campground and 40 cabins available for overnight lodging. Anticipated reopening is spring, 2017.
