Man arrested for shooting, leaving one dead, one injured

Updated on Monday, Nov, 15.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Michael Cappell in connection to a homicide that took place on Tuesday, Nov. 9 in Plant City.

Authorities responded, after 2 a.m., to reports of gunfire at the intersection of North Wilder Road and East Williams Road.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies and the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner were on the scene, where a car was flipped over in a ditch at the crossroad.

An adult male was found deceased inside the vehicle and another adult male was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

At the scene, Cappell,19, admitted to deputies that he had shot at the vehicle hitting both the driver and passenger.

Injured during the shooting, the driver lost control of the car, resulting in the crash, explained the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

“This man had no regard for what would happen to those around him when he fired his weapon,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Not only did he take a life and seriously injure another person, but many others could have been injured if the victim’s vehicle had crashed into others on the road.”

The victim transported to the hospital is in stable condition and is expected to recover.

Cappell faces charges for second degree murder, second degree attempted murder, and shooting into a vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office is still conducting an open investigation.
