A shed for secure storage was purchased for cadet equipment.
A new addition to the campus is already making a meaningful impact on students, thanks to the generosity of a local community organization dedicated to youth development. The Plant City Champions for Youth Foundation has fully funded the purchase of a much-needed storage shed with shelving for the JROTC program at Plant City High School, providing a permanent and secure space for essential cadet equipment.
The shed and its shelving, which was delivered just last week, represents more than just extra storage—it symbolizes a continued investment in the growth, discipline, and success of young leaders. For years, JROTC instructors and cadets have worked around limited storage options, often sharing space or transporting equipment as needed. This new structure will allow the program to operate more efficiently while ensuring that valuable gear is properly maintained and readily accessible.
“This donation is a tremendous boost for our cadets,” said Aarik A. Karlson, First Sergeant, U.S. Army (Ret.), and JROTC Army Instructor at Plant City High School. “Having a dedicated space for our equipment means we can spend less time managing logistics and more time focusing on training, leadership development, and community service.”

Plant City Champions for Youth is a 501(c)(3) Plant City-based non-profit that aims to support the youth of the Plant City area. Its mission is to promote activities and opportunities that help Plant City’s young people build strong characters while realizing their full potential as responsible citizens and leaders. They do this by encouraging the youth to partake in recreational and service-based opportunities. The Champions for Youth president, Robert Olszewski, believes that the youth of our area are not just the future of this community, but the state and country as well. “Our hope is that this organization will build on the previous club’s history and its successes.” All of the money that the organization collects is considered a donation that goes right back into the Plant City community.
The JROTC program plays a vital role in shaping students into responsible citizens through leadership education, teamwork, and character-building activities. In addition to in-class instruction, the program offers a wide variety of after-school opportunities designed to engage cadets and help them develop new skills. These include drone training, archery training, air rifle training, a physical fitness team, a marching team, and an academic and leadership team.
“Our JROTC program offers many after-school activities for our cadets to engage in and learn,” Karlson added. “Our cadets are also heavily involved in the community throughout the year, providing Color Guards for special events and support personnel whenever needed.”
In recognition of the foundation’s generosity, a request has been submitted to install a dedication sign on the shed. The sign will serve as a lasting tribute to the Plant City Champions for Youth Foundation and its commitment to empowering local students. It will also stand as a visible reminder to cadets and the broader school community of the importance of strong community partnerships.
Plans are already underway to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the near future. The event will formally celebrate the completion of the project and provide an opportunity to publicly thank the foundation for its support. Organizers hope the ceremony will also draw attention to the positive impact both the JROTC program and the foundation have on local youth.
As the shed becomes a functional part of daily operations, its presence will continue to support the mission of the JROTC program—developing motivated, disciplined, and capable young individuals prepared to succeed in whatever path they choose.
The partnership between the JROTC program and the Plant City Champions for Youth Foundation is a powerful example of how community support can directly enhance educational experiences. With the ribbon-cutting ceremony on the horizon and a dedication sign to be installed, this project stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when organizations come together with a shared vision for youth success.
