Plant City and Strawberry Crest renewed their rivalry Oct. 25, at 1 Raider Place, in what was expected to be a close contest.
Instead, the Raiders came away with a huge 41-14 win over their crosstown foes.
They stifled the potent Charger offense in the first quarter and took at 27-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, and they often looked like they knew what Crest was going to do even before Crest did.
But the Chargers finally got some points on the board in the third quarter, thanks to some special-teams trickery – including a fake punt taken for a first down by linebacker Matt Chaney, which sent the visitors’ section into a frenzy.
But it was all for naught in the end, as this Plant City team appeared to be too fast for the Chargers to catch.
