Star-spangled babies

Operation Homefront threw a Star-spangled baby shower at the American Legion Post 26 in Plant City on July 14. New or soon to be military mothers signed up online and were invited to the party. At the event they received a free basket full of gifts for the child and were able to connect to a variety of groups and organizations to that offer educational information and benefits for their family. The baskets were full of donated items like handmade quilts from the group at Fred's Market Restaurant, books, toys and more.

Though Operation Homefront frequently provides the baby showers for military moms across the country this is the first time the event has come to Plant City. The Star-Spangled Babies® program aims to help families that may not have developed a solid resource group and support system due to deployments and frequent relocation.

Many live far from friends and family and the program helps answer any questions the soon to be or new mothers may have. It also provides early childhood education tips and connects them to those locally who will remain in their corner for the duration of their stay in the area.
