Raiders advance to regional semis with Timber Creek win

The Plant City Raiders kept right on rolling Wednesday night, staying alive in the regional tournament with a 3-1 win over Timber Creek.

Zachary Spivey scored the only goal of the first half, putting PCHS ahead in the 28th minute, and the Raiders offense picked up somewhat in the second half. Elvis Castro’s goal in the 57th minute gave PCHS the insurance goal it needed to relax a bit, and Uriel Cerro effectively put the game away in the 63rd minute after perfectly corralling a rebound at the Wolves’ goal and burying it in the back of the net.

Timber Creek, visibly and audibly frustrated, did manage to end the Raiders’ shutout bid with a goal in the 72nd minute. By then, though, the damage was already done.

Next up on Plant City’s schedule is a Saturday night home game against Winter Park, which advanced with a 4-1 win over Newsome on Wednesday. The Wildcats’ offense has scored at least four goals in all but one of its games since coming back from winter break on January 10 and is undefeated since then. The game will start at 7 p.m.
