Hundreds came out for the for the 2013 Strawberry Distance Challenge 5K Saturday morning at Walden Lake.
Nearly 400 runners participated in this year’s race, coming from around the Tampa Bay area, across the state and even throughout the country. The annual race has become a popular event leading up to the Florida Strawberry Festival.
Mike Stewart from Redmond, Wash. was the overall winner, with a time of 19:07. Stewart is down in Florida visiting his parents and training for this year’s Boston Marathon, which he qualified for recently.
“This is kind of like my spring training,” he said.
Runners of all ages and skill levels participated in the race. A 1-mile fun-run/walk, called the Strawberry Dash, followed the 5K.
