In May 1985, Dr. Gordon Klatt walked and ran his way around a track in Tacoma, Wash. for 24 hours to help raise money forĀ the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life was born. Then, in 1998, the Plant City community joined the battle to stomp out cancer one lap at a time.

Plant City's most recent Relay for Life event was held Friday, AprilĀ 21 on the track at Plant City High School. Walkers took the track for 14 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. According to the Relay for Life website, the idea behind the all-night walk is that "cancer patients don't stop because they're tired, and for one night, neither do we."
