It was a night any parent would be proud of; Nation Elementary Honors Society inductions at Bryan Elementary School.

Guidance counselor Amelia Ramjas put together a candle lighting ceremony where the eight inductees received a membership card, pin and certificate from principal Cheryl Boddie.

Before the ceremony, the inductees gathered to go over their presentations. Morgan Horne, who was elected as president, was ready for the ceremony.

“I’m a little nervous,” Horne said.

To be eligible for membership, students must be in third, fourth or fifth grade at an official, approved NEHS chartered school and must maintain certain grade specifications such as achieving a 4 or higher on FCAT reading and math. The charter members will be responsible for attending meetings and completing community service.

The NEHS was established in 2008 by the National Association of Secondary Principals  in cooperation with the National Association of Elementary School Principals to recognize elementary students in both public and non-public elementary schools for their outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated personal responsibility.

The NEHS joins the National Junior Honors Society for middle school students and the National Honors Society for high school students, two long-standing institutions.
