Hundreds of runners took part in the Blueberry Stomp Mud Run Saturday morning at Keel and Curley Winery in Plant City. The race consisted of a 2.9 mile run through Keel and Curley’s 25-acre blueberry field.
Nearly 20 obstacles were distributed throughout the course, including a crawl through a blueberry mud pit, a slide into muddy water and a creek crossing.
The event benefitted Darby Hasting and Evan Ranieri. Hasting, 16, is a junior at Durant High that was diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) last year. FSGS is a type of kidney disease that can lead to renal failure, requiring dialysis and oftentimes a kidney transplant.
Ranieri was born with stage 4 chronic kidney disease. Doctors expect Evan to be eligible for a kidney transplant by 2013, if not sooner.
All proceeds of this year’s Blueberry Stomp Mud Run will go to Hasting and Ranieri.
Charlie O. and The Houserockers entertained participants on Keel and Curley’s deck for a post-race party.
