Fist Bumps for Jax

Despite the rain, people wanting to offer their support for the second annual “Fist Bumps for Jax” poured into the Corner Store on Reynolds Street on Saturday.

Members of the community rallied together to support the Diaz family, the owners of the Corner Store. Their 3-year-old son Jaxon was diagnosed with leukemia, is in remission and is scheduled to have a bone-marrow transplant in August. The event aimed to raise money to assist the family with their medical bills and financial needs.

Patrons enjoyed food, drinks and live music from Benji Padgett, a local Plant City artist. A box labeled “Fist Bumps for Jax” was set up beside the door awaiting donations. Though the weather caused a slow start, Padgett raised $450 over the three hour event. Padgett said anyone still wishing to donate is welcome to drop by the restaurant anytime.
