Bronx man claims second eating prize of Festival in mashed potato contest

After a near miss in Thursday's shortcake eating contest, Patrick Fogarty again boasted to, then bested competitors in another food contest victory.

The Bronx native Fogarty was able to finish his two-pound tray of mashed potatoes topped with a plump strawberry quicker than his five competitors, earning him $100 in cash and a trophy. Fogarty also won $100 in Wednesday's Super Dog corn dog eating contest by being the first to finish more than three-feet of corn dog. He missed his sweep of food contests, however, when he lost the strawberry shortcake eating competition to Ethan Imm of Tampa by a few bites.

South Bend Indiana's Pickle Barrel Sirloin Tips, a festival regular has sponsored the event for about five years. This was the first year Isaac Colglaizer took over the event from his father, Joe Colglaizer.
