Adult summer fun begins

Bruton Memorial Library introduced its new Adult Summer Reading Program Saturday during a rockin' kick-off event. The library shut down and reopened at 6 p.m. just for the program. Fifth Gear Band performed summer favorites from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

The library also had two featured artists who were present with their exhibits. Charlotte Dillon showcased her farm-life inspired pieces on one side of the library and Jason Shiver showed off his diverse artwork on the other. Shiver is a local artist who was involved in Disney’s newest park in Shanghai. He also had work accepted into a two-city art show in Shanghai and Anaheim, California.

An updated list of summer events can be found on the library’s Facebook page.

Some of the highlighted events include: “Florida Cuisine with Chef Warren” on June 14 at 7 p.m., Morning book club: Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate on June 19 at 11 a.m., Evening Book Club: Eleanor Elephant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman on June 19 at 7:30 p.m., Flutists Tour de France: Flute Concert on June 21 at 7 p.m., DIY Terrarium Workshop on June 28 at 7 p.m., Chef Warren: Ten Meals in 10 minutes on July 12 at 7 p.m. and the DIY Craft Coaster on June 26 at 7 p.m.
