A pedestrian died this morning on State Road 60 near Plant City.
According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, Rhonie Eugene Johnson Jr., 30, of Lakeland, was standing in the center of State Road 60 east of State Road 39 at about 2:31 a.m. Oct. 1. Mulberry resident Samuel Ira Grossman, 46, was driving his 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis eastbound. Grossman did not see Johnson in the roadway, and the left front corner of his car struck Johnson.
Both the vehicle and Johnson came to final rest in the eastbound lane. Johnson expired at the scene of the crash.
