PCHS’s Meyer steps down from football

After leading the Plant City Raiders to the best season in program history, head coach Greg Meyer announced Monday morning that he has to step down.

Meyer, who had spent three seasons with the program as both head coach and a defensive coach, said that the move comes as a result of his doctor's recommendation.

"Issues with my heart arose last season and worsened during the Spring, which force me to make my health and my family my sole focus moving forward," Meyer said in a text message. "I will remain the TV Productions teacher at P.C. and continue to support our kids and this outstanding community, however I will not be on the field this year."

Athletic director Tim Leeseberg confirmed that Meyer will still help out as a liaison between Raiders and college scouts, something he has done since he started at Plant City.

The school wasted no time in finding a successor, promoting offensive coordinator Robert Paxia to take over as head coach. Aside from that promotion and Meyer's departure, there will be no changes with the rest of the staff.
