John David Cone

John David Cone, age 58, of Seffner, FL, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. He was born in Tampa, Florida, on August 28, 1967, to David and Sondra Cone. Growing up in Brandon, Florida, John developed a lifelong fascination with the outdoors. Whether he was fishing the Gulf, collecting critters, or playing with the family dogs, John was happiest when he was out in nature. John graduated from Brandon High School in 1985 and went on to have a successful career in sales. His friendly demeanor and innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life made him a natural in his field. He never met a stranger, and his genuine warmth left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. On March 4, 2006, John married the love of his life, Melissa. They bonded instantly over their love for dogs and college football, especially their beloved Seminoles. Together, they built a life centered on love, partnership, and shared adventures. Melissa was his anchor and greatest supporter, and they navigated two decades of life’s joys and challenges side by side. All those who knew John were aware of his lifelong love of animals. He was fascinated by all things wild: snakes, bears, birds, and gators, but he held a special place in his heart for Cattle Dogs, owning many over the years. In later years, John also developed an interest in photography. His love for animals translated into a beautiful portfolio of wildlife as he explored off the beaten path as “John of the Woods,” taking photos of the many critters he encountered. John was preceded in death by his mother, Sondra Cone. He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Cone; father, David Cone; sister, Jennifer Heath (Ray); as well as his beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces, and many friends. A memorial service to honor John’s life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hopewell Funeral Home, 6005 S County Rd 39, Plant City, FL 33567, where the family will receive friends at 10:00 A.M. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for refreshments and fellowship at the First Presbyterian Church of Brandon social hall, located at 121 Carver Ave, Brandon, FL 33510. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to assist John’s wife, Melissa, with medical and living expenses during this transition. Your generosity will help provide peace of mind as she navigates this difficult journey. GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/efbe47bc5.
