Lots of Hugs in new location

By the time this year’s Lots of Hugs Summer Reading Program ended, everybody was all smiles. That’s not just because the program ended with an outdoor “fun day” Aug. 3 with bounce houses, a slip ’n’ slide and pickup basketball, though — this summer was a big success for the program and its campers.

Sharon Moody and her team moved the program to a new home in Hope Lutheran Church. This year, all 106 campers also got something to help them during the school year: backpacks filled with school supplies that were donated to the camp through the Kiwanis Club’s Stuff the Bus program. 

 

MADZone celebrates grand opening

MADZone Jumphouse, arcade and new party capital of Plant City, held its grand opening
Aug. 4.

The jumphouse opened its doors at 11 and invited the whole community inside for a day of food, fun and an outdoor DJ set. Various community leaders came together to help the jumphouse’s owners mark the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and stuck around to play games.

P.C. man arrested for sexual misconduct

Tampa Police Department arrested Alex Jeffrey Hull, 31, on Monday after reports of two inappropriate relationships with minors.

Police said Hull, a teacher at Benito Middle School in Tampa, allegedly cultivated sexual relationships with two students between November 2017 and May 2018. Police learned of the incidents when a parent of one of the victims reported the crimes. Hull now faces a total of five counts of sexual battery, five counts of lewd and lascivious conduct and three counts of showing obscene materials to a minor.
