Knights ring in early Christmas

Every year, St. Clement Catholic Church’s Knights of Columbus bring a Christmas in July celebration to the Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City.

The Knights organize a gift drive that they then pull a large truck filled with gifts straight up to the Pregnancy Care Center’s doors. This year they exceeded even their own expectations, according to gift drive organizer Andrew Bryant with KoC Council 8095.

They counted 647 individual baby items, which will be used at the center. Those who come to the center for aid participate in an “Earn While You Learn” program where they can redeem points to “shop” in the boutique.

Expecting parents attend free one-on-one parenting classes and studies to earn the “Baby Bucks.”

Plant City woman arrested for road rage shooting

A Plant City woman was arrested July 25 after a road rage incident that left her with an itchy trigger finger.

Florida Highway Patrol said Destiny Star Harrison fired several rounds at a Duke Energy pickup truck when both vehicles were traveling southbound on Interstate 275 at approximately 8:24 p.m. July 25. The driver of the pickup truck, who was not hurt in the incident, told FHP troopers he was tailgated by Harrison and that she wouldn’t pass him even after he changed lanes. The driver said he saw Harrison waving a handgun at him, accelerated to get to the exit for North Dale Mabry Highway and heard her fire the weapon. Troopers noticed a bullet hole just above the truck’s passenger side taillight.

Harrison’s Lincoln Navigator was found disabled on a median near mile marker 41. Tampa Police Department assisted FHP in locating and arresting Harrison without incident. She was found to be under the influence, driving without a valid license and in possession of three firearms, 23.1 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and alcoholic beverage containers.

Railroad crossing to close

Florida Department of Transportation will be closing State Road 60 between State Road 39 and County Line Road in Hillsborough County starting at 6 a.m. Monday so CSX can replace sections of railroad tracks.

As long as the weather remains relatively clear the section of SR 60 should be closed for approximately 14 days, according to FDOT. No motorist will be able to cross the tracks for the entirety of the time period and should be prepared to detour by using SR 39, Alexander Street, Park Road, Baker Street and County Line Road. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained.

Traffic is expected to be heavier on the corresponding roads as drivers alter their traffic pattern. For detour questions, email roadwork@dot.state.fl.us or call 813-612-3200.
