For his staff’s hard work and efficiency, Hillsborough County Property Appraiser Bob “Coach” Henriquez announced his office will close on Thursday, July 3, in addition to the Independence Day holiday on July 4th. Henriquez’s decision mirrors Governor Ron DeSantis’ recent announcement that he is giving all state employees an extended holiday weekend celebrating America’s independence. “I’m incredibly proud of my team’s outstanding work ethic and commitment to efficiency,” Henriquez said. Hillsborough County Distributes Free Lunches for Students
Hillsborough County Public Schools is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2025-2026 school year. Section 104(a) of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 amended section 11(a)(1) of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act to provide an alternative to household applications for free and reduced-price meals in local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with increased levels of low-income students. This alternative is referred to as the Community Eligibility Provision. CEP is a provision that allows eligible schools to offer meals to all students at no cost to families. All students will be served lunch at no charge at the following sites: Plant City High School, Strawberry Crest High School, Tomlin Middle School, Trapnell Elementary, Walden Lake Elementary, Marshall Middle School, and the Plant City YMCA. Upcoming Lane Closures Between Alexander Street and Acacia Drive
The City of Plant City has announced an upcoming lane closure on Reynolds Street between Alexander Street and Acacia Drive starting July 7 and ending August 14, as the Utilities Department will be relocating a water main due to a conflict with an existing structure, in preparation for a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project scheduled to start early next year that will replace the aging culvert structure.
Plant City Locals Win Titles in Miss Southwest Central Pageant
The 2025 Southwest Central FL Scholarship Organization won the Outstanding Organization Award of the Year. Directed by Jennifer Chamberlain and Vice Presidents George and Gail Domedion, they have 12 titles, which is the largest in the Miss America System. The winners are as follows: Miss Plant City Teen- Annistyn Griffin, Top Ten, Miss Hillsborough County Teen- Taylor Gregory, Top Ten, Miss Polk County- Jada Brown, Top Ten, Miss Hillsborough County- Juliana Fray, Top Ten, Miss Winter Park- Miliee Hastings, Top Five (Miss Florida Pageant).
