Community Gathers to Discuss Downtown Events
On Monday, 4/27, community members gathered at Three Hands Mead in downtown Plant City to discuss the continued planning of Plant City Main Street events such as Last Friday and Oktoberfest. The meeting, led by Main Street board member Rob Tuppeny of The Crafted Butterfly, focused on the volunteer support needed to keep these beloved events running following the stepping down of Main Street Director Dawn Hyatt.
There was a strong turnout and clear community enthusiasm, but it was emphasized that “all hands are needed” each month for tasks like setup, barricades, signage, check-in, and teardown. Organizers noted that even an hour of volunteer time makes a meaningful difference, with a goal of at least 20 volunteers per event. Keep an eye on the Plant City Main Street Facebook page for upcoming sign-up sheets where volunteers can select their preferred time and role, as well as information on an upcoming vendor meeting. Last Friday will resume on May 29th.

Catch Me If You Can 5k
The inaugural “Catch Me If You Can” 5K was held on April 25. There were 250 runners, making it a sold-out race.
The race was hosted by the Friends of the PCPD Foundation, and the title sponsors were Wish Farms and the Plant City Rotary. Runners were given a 30-second head start before being “chased” by members of the Plant City Police Department, with an additional challenge to “Beat the Mayor.”
If you missed it this year, never fear, it will be held next year!
