Motorcyclist dead after wrecking into a retention pond

A Zephyrhills man died Monday, Feb. 15, after his motorcycle left the roadway, struck a chain link fence and then wrecked into a retention pond on the side of Alexander Street, also known as State Road 39A. 

William Neal Major, 26, was traveling on Paul Buchman Highway (State Road 39) when he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection. He left the roadway and became airborne before hitting the chain link fence. 

He died on the scene from his injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
