With Plant City High School’s Unified basketball team set to compete in Seattle in July, Mayor Rick Lott was more than willing to help the team make the trip.
Lott visited the high school Tuesday morning and presented the team and Special Olympics Florida President & CEO Sherry Wheelock with a check for $10,000. The donation covers exactly half of the $20,000 fundraising goal the team had set when it qualified for the national championships.
“We’re one big family,” Lott told the athletes and coaches.
The 2018 Special Olympics USA Games begin July 1 and run through July 6.
