A 24-year-old man was jailed Sunday night after he shot his mother’s 33-year-old boyfriend in the chest during an argument at their home, according to Hillsborough sheriff’s officials.

Bobby Garza faces a charge of attempted second-degree murder in the shooting of Miguel Navarro-Garcia. At about 7 p.m. Sunday, May 17, the two got into an argument at the home they shared at 1010 Lynch Place, deputies said.

As the two began to fight, Garza hit Navarro-Garcia in the back of the head, deputies said. Garza then reached into a couch where a gun was concealed, drew the weapon and shot Navarro-Garcia in the chest, deputies said.

Navarro-Garcia was taken to a hospital for treatment. His wound was not considered life threatening, sheriff’s officials said.

Garza ran away after the shooting, officials said. Deputies later found him and arrested him. He was held in jail Monday without bail.
