Local athletes perform well at NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition

Two local athletes performed well at the Team Championship of the Punt, Pass and Kick Competition held Nov. 25 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

Jorge Navarrete, 15, won the 14-15 boys age group with a 127-foot-9-inch punt, 100-foot pass and a 127-foot place kick, totaling 354 feet and nine inches. Alexandra Jacobsen, 8, came in second in the 8-9  girls age group.

Navarrete, who is also the varsity kicker for the Plant City High football team, and Jacobsen advanced to the championship round after their performances in the sectional competition Oct. 7 at One Buc Place in Tampa. Eight other local athletes joined them in that competition after advancing from the local Punt, Pass and Kick Competition Sept. 29 at Otis M. Andrews Sports Complex.

As the Buccaneers Team Champion, Navarrete will now wait to see if his score will be among the top four in his age group from the other 31 NFL teams.  The announcement of who advances to the National Finals will be made in late December.  The National Finals will be held at a playoff game in January.

The Plant City local NFL Pass, Punt and Kick Competition is co-sponsored by the City of Plant City Recreation and Parks Department and the Plant City Optimist Club.
