On November 11th, the Rotary Club of Plant City hosted Quilts of Valor at their noon lunch event. I am touched by the presentation and wish to take a minute. to share with the club what most members did not see and didn’t understand.
I served in the 1970s right at the end of the Vietnam War. My friends and neighbors were not very nice to me or anyone that served during that time. For over 30 years, I did not tell anyone I am a veteran, for fear of the response I would receive. Things did not get better until after 9-11, when companies started doing kind things for the soldiers returning from the Middle East.
What we did today was probably the first time those men were told thank you by their community, and I’m very proud to have been a party to it.
