Joy Trent and Bill Scannell took their favorite hometown newspaper in May on two fantastic weeks in Peru.
“The weather was beautiful, bright and sunny every day,” they say. “(We) visited Lima, Nasca (where the famous lines are drawn in the San Jose desert), Cusco, Lake Titicaca, and of course, Machu Picchu.
“The day we hiked, there was the only time it rained on our whole trip,” they say. “Still, we spent the whole day there touring the ruins and taking pictures as the clouds rolled in and out. We even summited Huayna Picchu, the huge mountain in the picture that serves as a dramatic backdrop to Machu Picchu. It is a slippery and dangerous climb in wet weather, but the 360-degree views from the apex are astounding! The views of Mache Picchu below and the panorama of forested mountains are literally breathtaking.”
