Million square foot warehouse will bring jobs to residents.
From a single store in 1992 to over 1,000 locations in 2026, TJX’s store HomeGoods has been sourcing goods from around the world and selling them to customers at discounted prices for over 30 years. TJX Companies Inc. itself came to fruition years before that, operating as the parent company with full ownership of several stores, meaning it manages their branding, financial decisions, and operations. While Plant City may not have its own HomeGoods location, we have one of TJX’s sister companies, Marshalls.
This week, a HomeGoods/Homesense spokesperson confirmed in a statement to the Plant City Observer that their company has acquired 175 acres of land in Plant City for a distribution center. “We expect to begin construction of an approximately 1.2 million square-foot distribution center soon, which will create jobs for residents of the city and surrounding communities.” They maintain that this distribution center will help service their growing network of HomeGoods stores, as well as those of its sister brand, Homesense.
What used to be a largely rural suburbia has swiftly turned into a hub for businesses seeking to expand their distribution space. In recent years, Plant City has been steadily adding more transportation centers and industrial parks to its map. The appeal? Several easily accessible railway connections and proximity to I-4. The I-4 passageway being the main draw. From there, these companies have the ability to hit Tampa and Orlando within a fairly quick jaunt.
The environmental impact, expected timeline for construction, and traffic projections are still unknown. The Plant City Economic Development Corporation has been working alongside TJX Companies Inc. throughout the process. “HomeGoods and HomeSense are extremely grateful and appreciative of the support provided by the City of Plant City and the Plant City Economic Development Corporation throughout this process. We look forward to becoming part of the greater Plant City community.”
